Herro My name is Sarah, and I'm a new and shy writer (i.e. I don't show anyone anything I've done unless it's for assessment - even posting on here make's me want to pull my head in back into my shell). I'm doing a Bachelor of Communications majoring in PR, minoring in CW. I love to write, but I'm not an avid writer, so I'm out of the loop when it comes to publishing and pursuing it as a career. Sheesh, I don't have much to contribute do I? Anyway, I like short stories and novel writing, anything dark and thought-provoking, definitely a pantser, and I love to travel. Also if you want to talk to me about food, oh my gawwwwd I love food, definitely up for that. Welcome and as Jade said, hopefully you can use this space to continue your love of writing and sneak out of the shell sometimes I also love good food! ?? I was watching ABC The writers room online and one of the featured writers said it should be called eating rather than writing. She would use food as a motivation to get through tasks. "Finish this chapter then I'll have some lunch", "finish these 250 words then some tea and chocolate"....does anyone else do this? Are you normally eating when writing?

I do actually eat a lot when I'm writing. Mostly sweets or something I can chew on?

I tend to eat when reading sometimes, way more frequently when I was younger; if I forgot to buy snacks, or couldn't be bothered making/gathering an array of snacks, then my fingers would cop it. I think like the hair tucking/tying up thing it helps me get control over my mindset, increasing focus; I need to be doing something to help me process the words and the thoughts/concepts behind them...if I'm just reading I try too hard to comprehend it or my brain plays "spot the literary devices" instead of reading, etc.
Most refer to this kind of eating as "distracted eating" and say it's a big no-no if you're dieting...but I generally like aspiring to be as cuddly as a woman in a painting from the 1500s to 1800s, so meh.
On the other hand, talking, especially small talking to me while I'm reading and am actually interested in what I'm reading is simply poking the bear. "Hi,", essential questions/compliments, and a shoulder squeeze or a smile if we're not at the touchy-feely stage yet is fine. Anything more = tread lightly. ;-)
