The Great Prologue Debate

To keep this particular issue separate from the other thread - Prefaces, prologues and epilogues - I thought I would make this thread so that all those who wish can hash out the pros and cons of prologues.

I know that there are some pretty big opinions on this issue

Listening to Gary today in a lecture and one point he made about prologues (which he likes) is that they have to set up the story that is to come in some way.

I thought this article explained them fairly well.

I think - if they're used correctly - that prologues are great.

For me, I look at prologues as 'past'. It is relevant to the story, but it is before the main arc of it. So similar to what Gary said.
