Hello Inklings,
I'm Alex, a U.S.C creative writing student.
Currently, I am at the half way mark of my degree. I have to say, last semester was my tipping point. The first year, after being thirty years away from any form of education, was difficult and some times embarrassing. But this semester has made the world of difference. I can now see my personal and academic improvement starting to take hold. When I think about where and who I was as a person before creative writing, It seems to me that my previous journey was and could only have been a sojourn pre-destined to arrive at a life of writing. CMN238, CMN247, CMN260, and CMN246 has opened my mind to my personal abilities and the genres and areas of writing that I would not have even considered entering into previously. I am looking forward to meeting everyone at the coming semester Inklings gatherings and hopefully being of some help.
I have not as yet, being new to the writing scene, begun to develop a publication history. But, in saying that, I am excited to state that I have just sent my first illustrated young adult/adult book proposal to Random House Australia for consideration. Even though I may not even receive a response I found the process to be educational.
I would appreciate some constructive criticism/ advice on the first chapter of a Creative non-fiction, crime novel that I will begin over the semester break. If anyone is interested in commenting I would appreciate your thoughts. Please be aware this is an unedited first draft.
I'm definitely a planner by nature, just can't help myself. I look forward to introducing myself and getting to know everyone.
